Erik Kroes is the name. Photography is the game. This rhyme is lame. Besides that, photography is much more than a game. It started out as simple technical curiosity for me. As this website shows, it grew to being my hobby, passion, study, work and lifestyle.
After spending some time studying Industrial Design, photography caught my attention. I've always been curious and analytical but nothing has kept me curious as long as photography. As it had my attention quite firmly, I decided to investigate further into the medium. In 2007 my study at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam started and I haven't looked back since. Except maybe sometimes to see the time fly by. Because time does fly.
Rotterdam is quite different than the city of Apeldoorn where I grew up. Apeldoorn is a haven surrounded by forests and fields. It has strong rural qualities. Whereas Rotterdam is the Dutch capital of skyscrapers and modern architecture. It feels like the city that never stops growing, building and renewing. Both cities and their surroundings have influence on me and my work. Hopefully there's no need to explain how the contrast is interesting to a documentary photographer, because I won't.
In 2012 my current study should be completed. As far as predictions go, I will most likely be working on my own book or exhibition by then. This is my goal and everything I create is made to reach it.
